Configurable options
- Display mode: Standard (vivid) colors; Black and white; Dull (nice) colors
- Tile size: Squadrats / Squadratinhos
- Zoomed view: Only about half of the neighboring tiles are shown making the current tile larger and following the track easier
- Device vibrates: If enabled, the device vibrates when entering a new (unvisited) tile
- Sounds: If enabled, the device beeps when entering a new (unvisited) tile
- Distance to nearby tiles: If enabled, the device shows distances to nearby tiles
- Tail length: Configurable length of the track tail shown on the display. Default is 20 points
- Tail width: Configurable width of the track tail shown on the display. Default is 2 pixels
- Update frequency: You can configure, how often the data field updates the displayed track on the screen (default every 2 seconds). This does not impact the frequency of how the device stores your location to the training file but is just for display purposes
- Visited tiles amount: Specify the number of visited tiles to keep track of. Due to limited storage capacity, this number is capped around 300 or you would get out-of-memory errors. Smaller number might give better performance
Installation
You can install the Squadrats Tracker data field from the Garmin Connect IQ Store.
After installation, you need to add the data field to your activity profile (e.g., Outdoor Walk, Run, or Bike).
Please refer to your device's user manual for instructions on how to add data fields to activity profiles.
On most devices you can do this via: Settings > Activities > [Activity] > [Activity] Settings > Data Screens > Add New > Custom Data > [Keep one field] > Choose Field 1 > ConnectIQ Fields > Squadrats Tracker.
The data field should be used on a screen that only contains one data field to ensure optimal visibility and usability but it works also on multi-field screens if the area resolution is at least 100x100 pixels.
Known issues
- On some devices, the data field might not display correctly if the device is in power-saving mode. Please ensure that power-saving mode is disabled for optimal performance.
- The logging of visited fields and track updates are only done while the Squadrats Tracker data field is visible on the screen. You may of course switch to another data field or screen and back to Squadrats Tracker to continue logging.
- On some devices the field may crash. This may be due to the number of visited tiles being too high or other device-specific limitations. Please reinstall the data field in that case and set the number of visited tiles to a lower value.
Future development plans
- Display options could be changed on the device. Currently the configuration can only be changed via the Garmin Connect app / website.
- An optional warning method if new tile has been visited but not "deep" enough, i.e. less than 5 or 10m.
- A possibility to set / download visited tiles for an area externally (via ConnectIQ app or website).
- Possibility to view a larger area than 3x3 tiles for better context and navigation.
- Have something useful or interesting in mind? Let me know!
